Maritime Safety Queensland is working with the owner of one boat sunken off Goat Island in the Noosa River and keeping an eye on another in the same vicinity.
A spokesperson for the authority said they had been in contact with the boats’ owners who are responsible for their vessels if they become an environmental or navigational risk.
“We are satisfied the owner of one vessel is working to meet his responsibilities and the vessel is anchored with required lights,“ he said.
“The second vessel, while unsightly, is not considered derelict.
“We will continue to closely monitor both vessels although neither currently pose a hazard to navigation or pollution risk.“
Maritime Safety Queensland general manager Patrick Quirk advised boaties heading to the Sunshine Coast for
the holidays to also be aware of annual speed reductions that were enforced until 15 April.
“Maritime Safety Queensland has set a reduced speed limit of six knots during the holiday peak,” he said.
“Queensland Water Police and Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol officers may issue on-the-spot fines
for inconsiderate boaties who choose to speed.
