Spotlight on volunteers

NOOSA Council is encouraging residents to come along to a Volunteer Week Expo at Noosa Fair next week to talk to local volunteers and find out how to get involved in the community.
The council’s community development co-ordinator Alison Hamblin said that not only was volunteering fun, rewarding and a way of contributing to the community, it was also a great way to meet new people and learn new skills.
Noosa Fair, in partnership with Noosa Council and Sunshine Coast Volunteering, is hosting a Volunteer Expo next Wednesday 11 May and Thursday 12 May, from 9am to 5pm.
“The expo will give residents the chance to meet with people who already volunteer with local community groups that do everything from rescuing wild animals to working in the arts and even surfing,” Ms Hamblin said.
The groups holding stalls at the expo will include Bushcare, Sunshine Coast Surfriders, Sunshine Butterflies, SES, Rotary, Flying Fox Rescue, Noosa Library, Noosa Community Support, Noosa Show Society, Red Cross and Noosa Regional Gallery.
Residents are invited to come along and talk to local volunteers.
National Volunteer Week is held this year from 9 to 15 May, with the theme of ‘Give Happy, Live Happy’.
Not only are volunteers helping make the lives of others happier, they too are happier as a result. Research from around the world demonstrates that volunteering has a significant positive impact on individual wellbeing.
