Aqua aerobics reaping rewards

FITNESS instructor Delia Thomas says attending a recent international fitness convention made her realise just how fit the ladies in her aqua aerobics classes at the Noosa Aquatic Centre (NAC) are.
“The NAC aqua ladies are way above average for their age group, and it is so encouraging and rewarding as an instructor to see how fit and agile they have become,” Delia said.
“They have all come so far, largely because they don’t allow age to be a barrier. I tell them each week: ‘do what you can, not just what you think you can.
“Of course the ladies are feeling the benefits and reaping the rewards. The warm water provides a safe environment for exercise, and the support from and friendship of the other women gives the classes a social dynamic as well.”
Aqua aerobics is a fantastic all-round workout for every age group as well as pre-natal and post-natal women.
“It’s also suitable for those suffering from an injury preventing them from participating in land-based activities,” Delia said.
Most classes are held in the shallow 25-metre pool using noodles, hand paddles and water dumbbells. Deep-water classes are slightly more challenging and fantastic for building strength and stamina.
The Noosa Aquatic Centre holds aqua classes every morning. For more information visit www.noosa.qld.gov.au/fitness-studio-classes or call the friendly reception team on 5448 0288.
