LIKE the art of kitesurfing, local business Adventure Sports Kitesurf Australia has become an iconic part of Noosa’s culture.
First established back in 1999, the kiteshop was the brainchild of one of Noosa’s renowned locals, Chris De Aboitiz, whose son Keahi has gone on to become 2x World Wave Kitesurfing Champion.
Having started as one of the first kitesurfing schools in Australia, the shop’s Gympie Terrace doors officially opened in 2001.
After a number of short-term owners and a name change to Adventure Sports Kitesurf Australia, the Tarr family purchased the business in 2007.
The family run business has continued to share the love of kitesurfing across the coast and expanded the business to include top quality products for SUP (stand up paddle), kayaking and now skate.
In the coming month, the next chapter of the store’s story will begin, with the little blue shop relocating to a larger and more accessible premises at 136 Eumundi Rd Noosaville.
“Kitesurfing has always been an iconic part of the Noosa culture and a passion that is shared by our whole family,” owner Fiona Tarr said.
“Something we pride ourselves in is helping to keep that community culture alive in the sport, and we are confident that the new premises will do this and better service our local customers.”
Teaching the locals to kitesurf has indeed, always been at the heart of the business with the entire Tarr family (Fiona, George and sons Liam and Simon) all lovers of the sport.
As a senior instructor, George has taught hundreds of students over nearly 4000 teaching hours.
Now the teaching mantra has passed to the next generation with their youngest son Liam teaching when he isn’t at school.
