Stanton stands up for Wide Bay

THE ALP has endorsed local small business owner Lucy Stanton as their Labor candidate for Wide Bay in the coming Federal Election.
Ms Stanton, who has lived in Boreen Point for the past 16 years, is among the first group of candidates to join Bill Shorten’s federal ALP team.
Mr Stanton previously ran as the Labor candidate for Wide Bay in the 2013 Federal Election against the now Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss, who won the election despite a 2.5 per cent swing towards Labor.
Since the 2013 election, Ms Stanton said she has remained active in the community.
“This electorate is made up of many different communities all with their own distinct needs,” she said.
“It takes a local member with a keen ear for community voices to effectively represent a region such as ours and for too long it has simply been ticked and flicked by a local member more concerned with Canberra than Maryborough.”
ALP Queensland state secretary Evan Moorhead said Ms Stanton will build on her record of standing up for the people of Wide Bay.
“Lucy is a proven fighter for Wide Bay,” he said.
“Warren Truss and the LNP have taken Wide Bay for granted but Lucy will be a strong local voice.”
