Wheel meals on the slide

THE number of meals being produced in the Pomona and District Meals on Wheels kitchen has dropped significantly from 40 clients to just 28.
Kitchen supervisor Di Donaldson said a lack of awareness was one of the factors behind the drop in client numbers and is urging those eligible to sign up for the service.
Ms Donaldson said the meal service is a great service as it allows some elderly and incapacitated people to stay in their home rather than move to care.
Hot meals as well as cold and frozen meals for the non-delivery days are delivered to the door in the Pomona, Cooroy East and West, Eumundi, Cooran and Boreen Point areas, with meals starting from just $8.50, subject to the subsidy.
“Meals are available to not only the elderly but also those recuperating from illness or an operation or for other reasons that may affect their access to nutritionally sounds, home-cooked meals,” Ms Donaldson said.
More than 30 volunteers help produce the meals every week, more volunteers are welcome.
Ms Donaldson said new clients are recommended to apply for the service before the end of June as eligibility will be externally assessed after 1 July.
