Helpers make our game great

By ANNETTE ADSETT

COOLUM tennis club has undergone a little bit of spring clean a couple of months early, thanks to the efforts of a band of volunteers.
John Boland fixed the table for the soccer game that is so popular with the children. Henry and Zac recoated the verandah. Noelene watered the new garden. Jett’s parents cooked the barbecue.
It is volunteers that make a club and all the little contributions are appreciated, whether it is doing the dishes, pulling a weed out of the garden or just making visitors welcome.
The spruce-up comes just in time for the annual Patron’s Day later this month, which is already attracting interest.
Players are recording their names to participate in the up-down tournament on Sunday 30 August.
It is a day of excellent tennis for players of all abilities. If you would like a great social day that includes tennis, please register on the whiteboard in the clubhouse or email coolumtennisclub2@bigpond.com
Regular players, seniors and juniors, and visitors are all welcome.
Meanwhile, the Friday ladies are back into fixtures.
Both teams had home games last week.
Coolum Tourists are finding the competition strong in Division One.
Coolum Travellers had another close competition against their old rivals Maroochydore TT’s.
Coolum won by seven games and enjoyed lunch afterwards. Jenny, Joan, Annette and Noelene were the players.
Unfortunately, both Gloria and Victoria out injured. Noelene is playing extremely well and the team is grateful that she has made herself available to fill in.
The competition promises to be exciting, with the team that came last in 2014 winning against a new strong young team from Nambour.
Nambour beat Coolum in the first round. No matches will be predictable.
Coolum plays the top ranked team, Mooloolaba, this week. Good luck girls.
Junior fixtures have resumed after the school holidays. There are outstanding results so far in Division 1 with the team placed second and in Division 6 Pool B with the Coolum team coming first.
The club hopes for the parents’ sakes that Friday nights warm up and that all juniors enjoy the rest of the season.
