GET ready to rock next weekend when Noosa’s first major music festival arrives at the Weybe Road AFL grounds.
The Originals Music Festival will feature a mixture of local and national talent, sharing two stages over one big day of fun and excitement on 13 September.
Event organiser Marcus Pluckhahn of East Coast Originals said the festival was both an event for the community and a fundraiser for the monthly Peregian Originals and Cooroy Originals.
Marcus said he had been able to organise the festival with the help of Mark Pico from the Big Pineapple Festival and Golden Days Festival.
“While the Peregian Originals has been running for over 14 years providing the musical backbone to the northern end of the Sunshine Coast, the idea of running a major music festival is a whole different story,” Marcus said.
“The Originals Music Festival has been born out of necessity as the costs associated with running Peregian Originals began to outweigh the donations and sponsorship that it takes to run the event each month.”
Mark said he was able to help Marcus through his industry contacts and festival know-how.
“I was able to call on a lot of friendships in the industry to bring together an amazing line-up full of some of the hottest bands in the country at the moment,” he said.
Mark said it was a great surprise to see festival headliners Sticky Fingers’ new album debut at number three on the Aria Charts last week, along with Kingswood, who will also play on the day, and whose album debuted at number six this week.
“That’s the equivalent to picking the first four in the Melbourne Cup for a small festival,” Mark said.
“It just doesn’t normally happen like that.”
Kingswood and Sticky Fingers will be joined by Ash Grunwald playing with Scotty and Andy from The Living End, Bonjah, OKA, The Delta Riggs, Soula, In2Nation and a stack more locally grown acts.
Marcus said festival goers were in for a treat and with tickets only $40 for an adult, anyone could get along to Noosa’s first major music festival.
“We’ve kept tickets as cheap as possible and being a family-friendly event, we have really tried to cater for kids as well by giving them their own separate kids stage full of school bands and the coast’s best young performers,” he said.
Marcus said ticket sales were going great with the show looking to be a sell-out.
“Interestingly, more than 40 per cent of ticket sales had come from outside the Sunshine Coast with festival goers coming from as far as West Australia and Cairns,” he said.
