ONE in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, while eight women will die from the disease every day in Australia.
But through fund-raising for research and education campaigns, the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is working towards a goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030.
With the month of October dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer, raising funds for research and encouraging women to regularly check their breasts, now is the time to get involved with local fund-raising events.
Noosa’s main breast cancer event is the Bic Sup Paddle in Pink, where hundreds of paddlers turn Noosa Sound into a sea of pink on Sunday 16 October to raise funds for the NBCF.
Event organisers expect over 500 paddlers to take part this year with anyone and anything that floats welcome to take part in the day.
Entrants will paddle around Noosa Sound on any watercraft that floats from a stand-up paddle board to a kayak, canoe and anything in between.
Boards and boats are available for hire from Boardwalk Boat Hire with all hire fees and event registration fees donated directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Entry is $20 per person and children under 14 are free with a registered adult. Pre-event registrations are essential. Visit www.paddleinpink.gofundraise.com.au to register before the event.
