Above the call of duty

By JOLENE OGLE

THREE locals were honoured and praised for their community spirit at the recent Noosa Heads Daybreak Rotary breakfast at Noosa Springs, last Thursday.
Daybreak Rotary member Anne Oxley was presented with a certificate as a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of her donation of more than $3000 to Rotary during her time with the service club.
In a warming speech, Daybreak Rotary president Gill Timpany praised Ms Oxley’s fundraising efforts and commitment to the club’s ethos of caring for those less fortunate.
Ms Oxley joins over one million people recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Sunshine Beach Surf Club volunteer and high school student Edward Tilleard was also honoured by the organisation when he was sponsored to attend the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra next year.
The Matthew Flinders student said he enjoyed studying science and was looking forward to the week-long forum where he will meet research scientists and other like-minded students.
Finally, in a bid to recognise and reward those who go above the call of duty in their workplace, Daybreak Rotary presented Noosa Reef Hotel assistant venue manager Katie Stokell with the Pride in Workmanship award.
The award was presented by past president Ian McDonald who said Ms Stokell had showed dedication and pride in her role at the venue since her employment in 2008.
“You are an asset to the Noosa Reef Hotel,” he said. “You are also very appreciated by your employer.”
The Noosa Heads Daybreak Rotary club is part of the international Rotary movement and raises funds to donate to local organisations and initiatives.
