4MBS Classic Arts presents ‘Cribbie… the Brisbane suburb that disappeared’ for one night only at the Noosa Arts Theatre, 14 June.
Cribb Island, or “Cribbie”, was once a burgeoning seaside holiday destination with idyllic ocean views and grand vacation houses, until the depression hit and the suburb became home for the unemployed – the shameful home of down-and-outs.
But before too long, the suburb disappeared – the community forcibly relocated and homes bulldozed to make way for the new Brisbane airport. The residents were devastated.
Cribbie, the play, tells the stories of past residents as captured by writers Michael and Margery Forde (Milo’s Wake, Way Out West) who tell of a tight-knit community, full of colourful characters drawn together by poverty, adversity and a deep sense of connection.
Performed by a talented four-piece cast – Louise Brehmer, Sandro Colarelli, Kevin Hides and Erin Murphy – the play features hilarious impersonations of the suburb’s most colourful characters, from the policeman who never arrested anyone, to the Bee Gees and their first experiences performing.
This heart-warming and hilarious show is on for one night only, 14 June, at the Noosa Arts Theatre, 163 Weyba Rd, Noosaville.
Tickets are available now and start from $15 for children under 17, $20 for concession, groups and members, and $25 for adults.
