Volunteers royally thanked

By Margaret Maccoll

The melodic tunes from The Park Bench Ukulele Players set the pace for the volunteers brunch organised by Noosa Council to thank those who give their time across Noosa’s 300 community organisations.
Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington thanked the group of volunteers on behalf of the community and council.
“You lighten the load on council,” he said. “You make our life a lot easier.”
Cr Wellington said the services provided by volunteers enabled council to spend money in other areas where it was needed and improved the lifestyle of the community as well as the volunteers themselves.
“There has been masses of research demonstrating how volunteering is good for our well-being,” he said.
About 200 volunteers attended the brunch, along with Noosa councillors and staff.
State Government Independent candidate Sandy Bolton was treated like a winner when she dropped by, although the votes in the election are still being counted with a result expected on Friday.
