Weeds battlefront for Green Army recruits

Green Army recruits qualify after 23 weeks of weeding.

The latest Green Army team to help support Noosa Bushland Care groups’ war on weeds earned their stripes this month.
The nine participants have spent the past 23 weeks removing environmental weeds from Noosa’s bushland reserves.
The Green Army participants officially graduated on 19 May, days after a celebratory morning tea in recognition of their contribution to local conservation efforts.
Noosa Council Natural Areas officer Michael Lyons said the group of 17-24-year-olds were the third Green Army team to join conservation efforts in Noosa since 2014, and had shown great enthusiasm.
“The Green Army program is a fantastic way for young people to enter the natural resource management industry and the workforce in general,” he said.
“Some participants are continuing within this field, and others now have a clearer direction in which to take their careers. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside them.”
The Federal Government’s Green Army program aims to involve 17-24-year-olds in conservation projects Australia wide, to teach them about conservation issues, and equip them with work and life skills.
