Cycle challenge to fight childhood cancer

A GROUP of locals has launched a challenge to ride 1500 kilometres throughout the month of October to raise funds to fight kids’ cancer.
Jetts Peregian club manager Bek Saultry along with husband and wife team Jay and Lindsay Nowoselsky are taking part in the national Great Cycle Challenge that encourages people of all ages to get on their bikes and ride to fight childhood cancer.
According to the organisation, cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia with more than 600 children diagnosed with cancer every year and, sadly, three die each week.
All funds raised through the Great Cycle Challenge go directly to the Children’s Medical Research Institute to continue its work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Bek said she was inspired to do the challenge to help find a cure and would ride up to two hours per day to reach her 1000km goal by the end of October.
So far Bek has ridden more than 100kms and raised more than $1200.
Joining Bek are Jetts Peregian members Jay and Lindsay who sadly lost their nine-year-old son to cancer nine years ago.
Jay said he and his wife would share the cycling duties to reach their 500km goal by the end of the month.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the support,” Jay said.
“We uploaded our fund-raising page at night and by the next day at lunchtime we have already raised over $1000.”
