Peregian set to rock

By Hollie Harris

THE not-for-profit community event Peregian Originals is set to rock out this Sunday 9 October.
Throughout its 16-year history, the Originals have become a touring destination on the Sunshine Coast with the event constantly drawing bands from around the country and the globe.
This month is no exception with Japanese solo act Kenta Hayashi starting the afternoon of original music at 1pm.
This month will see the line-up host four acts that are all touring nationally.
Sunshine Coast musician Pete Allan with his full band will take to the stage in support of his latest single ’Ripples.’ Fresh from Caloundra Music Festival, the three piece electronic-dub act The Brains Trust will perform an upbeat and edgy 45 minute set. The act are currently on their national ‘Let’s Make A Bloody Mary Tour’.
Headlining Sunday’s Originals event will be blues-rock act Transvaal Diamond Syndicate who are on their national ’Shaddow EP Tour’. TDS was well received last year at the Peregian Originals bringing a heavier set of dirty blues to the event. Transvaal Diamond Syndicate are no strangers to the festival world and will bring a dynamic and energetic 60-minute set to round out the afternoon.
As an added extra this month, Peregian Originals is being held on the first day of International Mental Health Awareness Week. Event organisers are keen to help bring awareness to mental health and will be asking punters to rally together for a large group photo during the event to show support for the cause. The East Coast Originals understand music to be a creative outlet and often a much-needed emotional release for musicians and the general community.
Punters are invited to wear lime green and to bring signs or banners that have a positive message demonstrating their love of music and their support of mental health awareness.
Peregian Originals is held on the second Sunday of every month at the Peregian Beach Park from 1pm to 5pm. The event is a free event and run on the power of donations.
