Early success at opera

Sunshine Beach State High School Students were last week recognised for their performance as the Children’s Chorus in Opera Australia’s critically acclaimed production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Noosa Alive festival.
In July Opera Australia came to town with a full-scale touring production. The opera was performed in English with a chamber orchestra and the school’s songbirds.
Twenty four students learned to sing songs from The Marriage of Figaro score in advance of the opera arriving in Noosa and all but one student who was stricken with flu rehearsed with the professional cast and joined them on stage as an integral part of the performance.
The SBSHS music excellence program has a strong and proud tradition of performance in competition. In 2016 they claimed six gold awards at the fanfare competition and took home 14 awards at the Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod.
In June this year the program undertook their biennial performance tour – travelling to the Gold Coast.
SBSHS has a team of six committed music teachers who strive to provide their students with opportunities to excel in their musical pursuits.
Involvement in the national opera company performance was a significant opportunity for the students.
Noosa alive! president Johanne Wright and festival director Ian Mackellar congratulated the students and teachers last week and recognised their contribution with the awarding of certificates.
