Noosa District State High School Year 8 Junior School Pomona Campus students travelled to the Senior School Cooroy Campus this week to meet their teachers and undertaking introductory lessons for their 2017 Year 9 subjects.
The students enjoyed a hands-on humanities lesson, learning about the importance of sustainability, making new paper from the school’s discarded scrap paper.
The Year 8 students scooped the paper pulp that had been boiled and blended with banana leaves into screen sieved moulds, pressed the paper blend onto a corflute, and sponged off the excess moisture.
The hot, dry weather provided ideal paper drying conditions and the students next planned to use their newly created paper to make Christmas present gift tags.
