THE Date Brothers are set to woo the audience with their gypsy style of jazz pioneered by Django Reinhardt in the ’30s and ’40s.
The technical challenges presented by the idiom, the harmonic foundations and the melodies that are used as a basis for the improvisations make Gypsy jazz one of the most popular styles of jazz among audiences and players worldwide in recent years.
Ian Date is regarded as the best exponent of this style of guitar and Nigel Date is a Sydney-based professional guitarist, composer and teacher.
Joining the Date brothers on stage will be George Washingmachine, who has had a vast and varied career in the entertainment business, as a musician, actor and comedian, as well as Paul Williams, one of the greatest reed players in Australia, and accomplished bass player Matt Eves.
Make a date with the Dates on Saturday 19 March at The J, 60 Noosa Drive, Noosa Heads from 7.30pm. Members $20 and guests $25, early ticket purchase secures your preferred table. No BYO, budget bar available. To book your tickets call 5447 2229.
