Boardwalk of life

The boardwalk to be replaced.

By Margaret Maccoll

Noosa Council has given the green light to Hutchinson Builders to begin construction after Easter of a $7m replacement boardwalk from Little Cove to the Noosa National Park entrance.
Council said a specially treated pine decking board product called accoya, which comes with a 50-year guarantee not to rot, would be used in its construction and widths ranging from 2.5m to 5m.
There will be traffic delays as Park Road is reduced to one lane under traffic lights and a temporary walkway containing steps will be established for pedestrians to walk from Little Cove to the National Park.
In addition Council has this week discussed allocating a further $700,000 to the upgrading of the Main Beach boardwalk between the Noosa Heads Surf Lifesavers Club and Park Road and widened from 2m to 4m.
Council officers suggest the project tender be awarded to Ri-con Contractors for the price of $444,227.
