The sweet taste of success

LAST weekend the Sunshine Beach All Stars, otherwise known as the under-8 to under-10 Nippers headed south to The Redcliffe Peninsula for the annual branch carnival.
With so many great performances it was once again hard to pick the stand out achievements.
Two under-10 Cameron teams raced in the final event of the day, with Team B racing first and winning their race. An outstanding swim by Summer Hooper meant the team come out of the swim leg equal first. Marla Kohl ran through to tag Georgia McKinley on the board and when Georgia was tagged by Dan Auty in first position, no-one was going to catch the “fastest man on sand” and Dan sprinted away to win comfortably.
Buoyed by the performance of his clubmates in the first race, Brendan Otto put on a fine demonstration of ocean swimming and body surfing to give Sunshine the lead at the end of the swim leg. Eve Ashmore ran powerfully to tag Cailean Henry on the board.
Despite the much improved board paddler, Cailean, paddling a magnificent board leg, he was involved in a collision with the final can (in testing conditions) which meant the team was overtaken by the powerful Kawana Club.
Liv Zutt was able to bridge the gap in the run to the finish but could not overtake the leaders and Sunshine finished second.
Other notable performances included Dylan Wilson winning his under-9 board race and Brendan Otto winning his under-10 surf race to finish the season undefeated in all under-10 surf races … which is a remarkable performance.
Last weekend we also had Sunshine Nipper Matt Lewis shine at The Noosa Ocean Swim with a second in the 300m race and a third in the 1km.
This weekend the Bigger Nippers head to the Beautiful Dicky Beach for their two-day branch carnival which will no doubt produce some great results.
