THE Noosa District Netball Association has received a boost, thanks to Member of Noosa Glen Elmes joining the team as a sponsor.
Mr Elmes, who currently sponsors all football codes, tennis clubs, sailing clubs, cricket teams and the coast guard, said he was excited to add netball to the list.
“Netball has the highest team participation rate of any sport for women and girls, and doesn’t get the sponsor support and media coverage it deserves,” he said.
“I hope more locals will come along and support our team.”
Mr Elmes said he took pride in supporting local sporting teams as team sports gave children a “very, very good grounding”.
“Sponsoring local clubs enables me to put something back into the community that supports me and also it’s really important that kids play sport, play sports that are team sports, and play sports that are participation sports,” he said.
“It gives them a very, very good grounding, and anything I can do to help promote that, I’m more than happy to do.”
Noosa District Netball Association president Beverly Bullivant said sponsorship was integral to the club’s success.
“Sponsorship is everything for our association. It’s run by volunteers … so dollars are very tight,” she said.
“Anything we can get goes straight back into our association and helps our girls go on representative trips, upgrades the courts and gives them a pathway to go further.”
