MADE of 18-carat gold and worth $175,000, the Emirates Melbourne Cup last week toured Noosa, stopping at local venues and helping raise funds along the way.
The Noosa Heads Surf Club was the first stop for the Cup with a charity breakfast in aid of the Nippers program on Friday 3 October.
Later that day, the Cup made an appearance at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club where locals flocked to pose with the impressive Cup.
Guests were also treated to a talk by Wendy Green, the owner of the 1999 Melbourne Cup winner, Rogan Josh, and celebrated racing reporter, Tony Burke.
At each event, the Cup was delivered and set atop a stand, which was guarded under the watchful eye of racing officials. After the excited locals had posed with the Cup, while wearing a white glove, the Cup was whisked away to its next engagement.
