NOOSA HEADS BOWLS
THE tradition continues. Back in 1987, then president Joan Barrett and her committee at NHBC came up with the idea of an All-Stars day for the coast’s lady bowlers, and to go with the day’s competition a feast of decadent desserts would be provided as enticement. All-Stars day has been a hit ever since and the 2014 edition, sponsored by Laguna Estates, was held last Thursday, attracting 26 top teams from the district. A special welcome was given to Palmwoods bowler Lorna Hardingham who was in the winning four in the inaugural event in ’87.
This year’s tournament ended in a tie for first place between a team from Pacific Paradise, skipped by Mary Nilon, and Pat Becker’s four from Tewantin-Noosa. They both came in with a score of 57 points. Rest assured, none went hungry, with the calorie count soaring. But, it is only once a year.
Last Tuesday’s comp was won by regular winners Nick Gelavis and Chris Robinson, with consolation going to Ian Sanday and Neil Walsh.
Wednesday was ladies’ triples, taken by the team of Heather Rider, Lis Thomson and Sly Foulds.
Friday jackpot open pairs winners were visitors Tony Howard and Bob Mulgrave. Runners-up prize went to Steve Currie and Paul Baker.
Steve Bowie and Ralphe Rickman topped the margins to win Saturday’s pairs prize.
Entries are rolling in for the all-day mixed medley set down for Thursday 30 October. Pick up a form at Noosa Heads Bowls Club or telephone 5447 3433 to book.

COOROY BOWLS
A GOOD week of bowls was had this week. Tuesday jackpot pairs numbers were down but everyone enjoyed their game. The new starting time for the game is 1pm now that the weather is warming up.
Wednesday nights sees the business bowlers having fun in this noisy, but competitive challenge. Jacobson’s, Treble Clefs, Harvey’s, Bandido’s @The Hub, Belvedere’s, Pages and Mutineers all had wins this week.
In the High Rollers, 101s remain on top still undefeated. JeLS, Eumundi Boys and Kybong Kids sit in second place. This week JeLS and Kybong Kids battle while Eumundi Boys and 101s will challenge each other so the leader board will change.
The first round of the mixed triples competition was held on Saturday morning. Russell Butler, Maureen Bottomley and Brian Cunnington will meet Kennedy McGrath, Claire McGrath and Margaret Dawson in the final this week.
