Two arrested over failed break-and-enter

POLICE charged two people with attempted break-and-enter following an incident at the Peregian Breeze estate early Friday morning 9 October.
Just after 3am, police were called to a residence on Newport Street following reports of an attempted break-and-enter.
Police attended and arrested a 23-year-old Peregian Beach woman and a 27-year-old Diddillibah man a short time later.
It will be alleged an attempt was made to gain access to the home, which had been under construction but now occupied, by breaking a door lock and when that failed they used a rock to attempt to break a glass sliding door.
It will also be alleged that when the two were arrested the vehicle they were using had false plates and that a trailer attached to the car was allegedly stolen.
Officer in Charge of the Sunshine Coast District CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said the arrests followed a number of reported thefts from completed and near completed houses on new estates in the area.
“It is not known if this incident is linked with the other reports but we will be investigating if there is any link between these arrests and other similar reported incidents on the Sunshine Coast,” Sen Sgt Edwards said.
“We are appealing for anyone with any information in relation to these types of incidents to contact Crime Stoppers.
“We would also like to hear from any tradespeople who may have purchased any secondhand tools or equipment recently on the Sunshine Coast.”
The man and woman have both been charged with two counts each of stealing and one count each of attempted burglary. More charges are expected as further suspect property has been recovered from a Peregian Beach address.
They are due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 28 October.
Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24 hours a day.
