Mayoral candidate Sandy Bolton has set her sights on traffic hot-spots after the initial stage of public feedback on the Transport Strategy comes to an end.
Cr Bolton said the state of Noosa’s roads and intersections are set to be major campaign issues for all candidates leading up to the March elections and that the council needs to fix the roads before alternative transport options can be put in place.
“An effective transport strategy will decrease pressure on current high traffic areas and the constant battle for parking,” Cr Bolton said.
“An innovative transport strategy can position Noosa as a leader in cost-effective alternative transport solutions that are fun, practical and embraced by the whole community.”
But Cr Bolton said a road upgrade and safety program were needed before “truly effective” transport alternatives could be implemented.
Cr Bolton said if elected as mayor she would focus on road hot-spots including Tewantin’s Beckman’s Road by-pass, Cooroy’s Myall, Elm and Diamond Street intersections, Noosaville’s Ernest Street/Hilton Terrace intersection, Lake Weyba turnaround and Castaways Beach T Zone.
“Under my leadership these essential road safety measures and upgrades will be implemented in a succinct, staged plan that is realistic and achievable,” Cr Bolton said.
“There are many options that could be considered – Park n Free Rides, an increase in internal bikeways, private/public partnerships for shuttles and ‘carless getaways’, walkways and pedestrian linkages.
“These types of alternative transport solutions will be good for the environment, good for our economy and good for the people.”
