Wizards too good for Gamblers

By Bruce Blakemore

NOOSA TABLE TENNIS
The Wizards – Roger Gore, Iian Stimson, Paul Newall, Lucas Gore, James Zhang – defeated The Gamblers – John Murphy, Jonas Campbell, Brad Muller, Craig Smit, Harrison Potts – 11/9.
To say the season final was close was definitely an understatement!
The two early doubles of Iian/Paul versus Jonas/Brad and John/Craig versus Roger/Lucas were both epic ordeals each decided by a point or two in five sets in the Wizards’ favour.
That two rubber advantage was maintained as the match progressed until the final two rubbers.
The Gamblers needed to win both to secure a last-ditch countback victory at 10/10.
Craig/Harrison narrowly accounted for Lucas/James but surprisingly for many, it was the sometimes erratic Iian taking out John in straight sets.
The stand-out performer on the night was Roger Gore, and with son Lucas enjoyed a rare double of securing individual honours in Division 1 and Division 2 respectively as well as sharing victory in the final.
The club’s next competition starts on 2 August and it is a great opportunity for any interested players to become involved.
Noosa Table Tennis Club is now based at the Noosa Leisure Centre at Wallace Park next to the library.
Competition is on Wednesday nights from 7pm, and social/senior play is held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am-noon.
