Una and Reg join stars at Christmas

UNA and Reg Bryant will be honoured this Christmas with a special star on the Corooy Christmas tree.
The couple are remembered for their outstanding community service, making a major difference to Cooroy with their volunteer efforts that spanned more than 50 years.
It is fitting that they are being remembered with a Christmas Star on the Ricon Cooroy Christmas tree this year.
Cooroy Chamber of Commerce president said the chamber chose to memorialise Una and Reg because they embodied the spirit of Christmas in Cooroy.
Among a list of community achievements, Reg was proud to be a founding member of the Cooroy Rotary Club where he and Una were members for many years.
“Una volunteered many times at Christmas in Cooroy and Reg was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Cooroy, who co-host Christmas in Cooroy so it is very fitting that they will both be remembered on the tree this year,” she said.
Una and Reg also made an outstanding contribution to the development of Kabara, Cooroy’s locally-funded 40-bed aged care facility for people who could no longer live independently in their homes.
For their community work, the couple were honoured with a string of awards including the Premier’s Awards for Queensland Seniors for Una and the Australia Day Award for Reg.
Cooroy’s beautiful Christmas tree on the roundabout at Emerald and Maple streets is decorated each year by Ricon Contractors and is widely proclaimed to be the best tree on the Sunshine Coast.
This year, the Cooroy Christmas Tree is extra special as there will be eight sponsored stars on the Christmas Tree that will be dedicated to special people from the community.
The tree is turned on in an official ceremony on Friday 4 December and as a further show of community spirit, people are urged to bring along a non-perishable item which will be donated to create gift baskets for those in need this festive season.
