A for anti-ageing

Refine Plus.

VITAMIN A in the form of topical retinoids is one of the best ingredients in the fight against ageing, according to Sharon Cassidy from Riverside Beauty who had shared some insights into this super product with Noosa Today readers.

What are retinoids and how do they work?
A derivative of Vitamin A, retinol is an active ingredient in cosmetic skincare products to help fight and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Contrary to popular belief, one of the mechanisms of retinoids is an increase in the thickness of the skin and the end result is more youthful looking skin.
It is proven to improve mottled pigmentation, fine lines, skin texture tone and colour and the skins hydration levels and it exfoliates the skin improving its overall performance.

How much retinol is best?
How much retinol your skin needs really depends on the condition of your skin, your skin type, the skin issues you would like to improve and how your skin is able to tolerate this unique and highly beneficial ingredient.
Starting on a low strength retinol will benefit your skin and your therapists at Riverside Beauty will be able assess your skin and determine what product is right for your requirements.

Will using a retinol-based product make skin more sun sensitive?
Retinol itself is sensitive to sunlight so is best applied before bed at night, but it won’t make your skin any more vulnerable to UV rays than skin would be after exfoliating with a facial scrub.

Will skin look worse before it gets better?
Retinoids can cause the skin to become drier, red and in some cases flake. We recommend clients introduce it into their skin care over a period of five weeks to build up skin tolerance.
