Sandman’s fame spreads across seas

Dennis Massoud, the Sandman, on Noosa main beach.

By Margaret Maccoll

Master sculptor Dennis Massoud won the world championship in Denmark for his sand sculpture in 2003, and has received acclaim across the world for his creations.
Last week the Sandman, as he is known, was using his trowel to create a magnificent dragon and mermaid at Noosa’s main beach which stopped people in their tracks as they marvelled at his work and took photographs.
While most of his work is at the mercy of the elements, Dennis has carved out massive sculptures in the Luliang Unan province in China which are maintained permanently and visited by millions of people annually. He recently submitted a proposal for a three-year project to build a 38m sculpture in Abu Dhabi. For more information on the Sandman, visit sandinyoureyes.com
