Canoe club kicks off with gold

By JO SEARLE

NOOSA Outrigger Canoe Club is off to a flying start this competitive season, winning gold in outrigger canoe (OC) half races in the first events.
The club’s OC6 teams are also in training for the start of their competitive season which starts with Noosa Outrigging Canoe Club (NOCC) hosting the first event of the season – the Noosa River Race on 11 October.
Outrigger canoeing is for most ages, and NOCC is offering opportunities for interested people to come and try the sport.
This is a chance to enjoy a paddle in the Noosa River in one of the six-seater outrigger canoes.
The come-and-try sessions will be held from 9am to midday on 21 September, meeting at NOCC, Chaplin Park, Mill Street Noosaville (across the bridge from the Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club).
NOCC members were also at the Noosa Farmers’ Markets on Sunday 31 August displaying a canoe and answering questions. Outrigger canoeing is a fun way to get fit and an opportunity to meet great people.
NOCC supports both competitive and social paddlers, from teens to over 70s, so come along and find out more.
Pre-registration is preferable to avoid disappointment. Contact Brian Rogers on 0458 629 025 or at brian.rogers45@yahoo.com.au.
