Green waste bins for rural homes

By JONATHON HOWARD

NOOSA Council has made several announcements this week including a chance for rural residents to use green waste bins and service structure changes.
The following is a breakdown of council’s announcements.
KIDS’ LIBRARY CARDS:
The first Noosa Library Service kids’ card will be on display in the Noosa Council marquee during the Noosa Country Show. The card features vibrant colours, lively characters and is the original artwork by local cartoonist Dave Hackett.
Cartoon Dave will be at the show on Friday sharing his drawing techniques and art of cartooning with families and kids. Participants will have the chance to create their own cartoon character during the 20-minute, free sessions from 10.20am-10.40am, 11am-11.20am and 11.40am-noon.
TWO UNDER ONE ROOF:
From Monday 15 September, Noosa Council’s building and plumbing departments will be housed under the same roof at “The Depot” on Eumundi-Noosa Road, opposite Bunnings.
The depot is an existing council property site that has undergone renovations to accommodate the two departments, which had formerly been located in separate buildings at the council’s main site at Tewantin.
Council’s manager of Building and Plumbing Services said to celebrate the new premises opening and to familiarise the customers with their new location, they were holding a sausage sizzle from 8am-11am on Monday 15 September.
GREEN WASTE OPTION:
Noosa Council is expanding the garden waste collection service to rural townships to counter the problem of green waste- lawn clippings, leaves, branches, twigs, weeds and palm fronds- going to landfill. Rural residents are being offered the service for a more environmentally friendly solution to managing their garden waste. The green waste bins cost $65 per annum for a fortnightly collection. Once ordered from the council, a new green waste bin will be delivered in about four weeks’ time.

The green waste collected by council is shredded, aged, mulched and made available to residents, free of charge, for use as garden mulch.
