Students take on phones

NOOSA Today spoke with several Year 9 students from Pengari Steiner School about what they think about school’s ban on smart devices – and the results were surprising.
“I have a smart phone, but I only bring it out after school. I think using smart devices in class can be a distraction. My parents also see it as a distraction and I have to hand the phone over when I’m doing homework,” Year 9 student Same Allen said.
“I don’t take the phone out after school because I don’t really need it and it only acts as a distraction,” Year 9 student Georgia Brooks said.
“I only take the phone out to make a call or to use the camera. It’s really only a distraction and it’s also disrespectful to teachers, using a phone in class. I think there’s always going to be a device or tool for students, but it’s how the person uses it,” Year 9 student Isabella Scott said.
