The Jack are back

By JACK MANGROVE

With summer rapidly approaching, the warmer days and nights will return for another year, and with this, the mangrove Jack action will be hotting up. A lot of people look forward to targeting these aggressive red fish and try to beat their personal best from the previous year. Trolled hard bodied lures kept nice and close to rocky structure is a surefire way to snag you a Jack. Soft plastics are also a favourite with the latest River2sea paddle vibes working a treat. Elsewhere in the river, whiting have been in good numbers around the River Mouth, Dog Beach, and Frying Pan with the traditionalist catching good numbers on cured worms and live yabbies. Flathead are also in good numbers around Weyba creek with Weyba hole holding some larger fish.
Offshore this week has been productive, with Sunshine and North Reefs the stand outs. Snapper, sweet lip and a variety of reef species have all been taken with some larger fish taken on night time missions. Trips a little further afield have also paid dividends. Some larger boats headed up to Double Island and managed to boat some great fish earlier in the week. Tuna are continuing to feed right throughout the bay with a mixture of longtail and mactuna feeding on bait schools of pilchards and hardy heads.
Beach fishing this week has been excellent with consistent reports of good whiting, bream, dart and a tailor. The places to go are Noosa’s North shore around Teewah beaches up to Double Island. The beaches to the south have also produced some nice fish around Sunshine Marcus and Peregian Beaches.
On behalf of Jack Mangrove, best of luck on your fishing adventures.
