Woman faces backpacker crash charges

A 63-YEAR-OLD woman will front court, charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm after crashing her car into two backpackers on Noosa Parade earlier this year.
Police today charged a Noosa Heads woman, who police have identified by her surname Burgess. She is due to face Noosa Magistrates’ Court on 30 September for the horrific crash on 26 May.
The police will allege Burgess crashed into the Noosa Parade roundabout on 26 May, seriously injuring two tourists.
Police report one of the injured men was a German national who had one of his legs amputated as a result of the crash. The other tourist received minor injuries.
Police confirmed the German national, who is believed to have been a prominent soccer player, has returned to Germany, while the other backpacker has continued to travel around Australia.
