NOOSA residents are coming up with some brilliant ways to help preserve and nurture the future of the Noosa North Shore.
Members of the Robinson family of Cooroibah recently wrote to Noosa Today with their ideas to curb 4WD numbers, benefit the local community and solve the rubbish dilemma.
“My husband and I have been visiting Noosa North Shore for many years,” Mrs Robinson wrote.
“We have noticed in recent years the increase in traffic flow on the beach and have been having lots of discussions about how it could be better managed.”
The Robinson family suggestions included:
1. No traffic should be allowed to travel along the beach an hour either side of high tide. This has been implemented at North Stradbroke Island for a few years and is helping to protect the beaches.
2. Each campsite be numbered and specify the number of people allowed to camp there, for example, Campsite 1 = three families of four. The council has each families name, address and contact details. Rangers check the site once they leave to make sure it is left in good condition. This would ensure camping numbers are kept down and enable rangers are able to fine people for leaving their waste.
3. Locals pay a cheaper rate for beach permits and those from outside the area pay more.
4. Locals receive a different sticker on their vehicle and this also allows them a cheaper rate on the barge.
5. Increase the barge fee for visitors.
“We wish to keep enjoying the North Shore and we want our children and grandchildren to experience it for many more years,” she said.
“It is always the small minority that spoil it for everyone else.”
Noosa Today has sent the Robinsons’ suggestions to QLD Parks and Wildlife for consideration.
