Scholarship a dream come true

Former Noosa District State High School student Carlee Darben can’t wipe the smile off her face.

For the Cooroy local is headed off to the Queensland University of Technology in a few weeks with a scholarship in one hand and a train ticket in the other. Carlee was one of several impressive applicants in the Cooroy Community Bank branch scholarship program and will now use the funds to work her way through her three year degree. Carlee’s studies will see her commence a Bachelor of Business majoring in Public Relations on February 25. “It’s going to be a great adventure and I’m very excited about the year ahead,” Carlee said. “I’m so thankful our local Cooroy Community Bank branch has given me this opportunity and for all this means to me, my family and my future. I’ve been dreaming of studying public relations for the past few years and I hope one day to put my degree to good use on the corporate side of PR.” Manager of the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, Geoff Edwards said the process of choosing the successful applicant was a really satisfying process. “This is part of our commitment to building a stronger community.  “The idea behind the scholarship is to assist one regional or rural student per year from Noosa District High School who planned attending university for the first time in 2014. Carlee is the second recipient of the annual scholarship and because of the high costs associated with living away, we knew many applicants would need financial assistance to help their dreams come true,” Geoff said. Noosa District Principal Chris Roff said: “We’re thrilled to be chosen as the school who will give a student the opportunity to receive financial support while taking their dreams to the next level. It will be such a great start for Carlee, who was an excellent student at NDSHS and a very positive role model.”
