Anglers find river a haven

Kenan Batuk from Melbourne boated this standout pearl perch on a recent Trekka 2 charter to Massoud's Reef.

NOOSA’S offshore anglers have had to spend most of the last week within the confines of the river as the offshore conditions were difficult.
Anglers were faced with winds of up to 30 knots as well as large two-metre-plus swells – so even the larger craft where left on the trailer.
Sunday morning was the best of the week but with conditions still a little lumpy, offshore angler had to make the best of the conditions and stuck more to the inner reefs.
Sunshine Reef again was one of the most popular for a bottom bounce with trout and sweetlip on the menu. Out at Massoud’s Reef Trekka 2 boated moses perch, venus tusk fish, cobia (dropped at side of boat) and quality pearl perch.
In the river, the good old whiting where happy to take yabbies, prawn and worms along the dog beach and Gympie Terrace. Bream were also in the same area and there were a couple caught with a bit of size to them. Around the Noosa Sound, tailor and tarpon have been crashing into surface lures in the low light periods morning and night. Trevally have also been in the mix, herding baitfish schools to the surface and feeding.
Further upriver, the flathead have been on the chew around the first ski run as well as the entrance to the first lake.
Up between the lakes, mangrove jack have been feeding hard, with prawn profile soft plastic a real winner.
While you are up river make sure you lob the crab pots over the side, fresh mullet and a good long soak should see a couple of nice bucks in the pot.
In the fresh water, bass have been on the chew in Lake McDonald around Three Ways, Bass Bay and along the weed edges first thing in the morning.
They are also responding well to swimbaits and hardbody lures in the deeper water during the brighter part of the day.
On behalf of Jack Mangrove, best of luck on your fishing adventures.
