Home-grown advantage

By JOLENE OGLE

IF you have ever wished for a gourmet garden, full of fresh herbs and delicious fruit and vegetables you can simply pick, prepare and serve in family meals, then don’t miss Cath Manuel’s coming series of workshops.
Founder of Soil to Supper, horticultural therapist and gardener extraordinaire, Cath knows how to create luscious soil, plump produce and even has a few recipes for the wild and wonderful foods she grows in her impressive home garden.
Cath will lead workshop participants through a series of workshops, starting with an in-depth look at how to plan and design a garden that will work for you and in the space you have.
This workshop will be followed by From The Ground Up, a look at how to create fertile soil to give your vegies the best chance at thriving.
By November, participants will be able to harvest their crops and use the produce in some delicious recipes.
Cath said she was excited to show people how to create an edible and long-term garden.
The workshops will even include a trip to Cath’s home garden where everyone can see firsthand how to build a chicken coop with organic citrus orchid and an edible garden.
“I like showing people how a home garden can be,” Cath said. “It’s real and everyone can have a look.”
The first workshop is planned for Saturday 28 February at United Synergies, Earnest Road, Tewantin, where participants will learn how to plan and design a garden.
Anyone who would like to take part can email Cath at her website www.soiltosupper.com. Each class is $45 per person and will include hands on experience.
