Basket weaving for healing

LOCAL artist Rene Bahloo is calling on the community to find their creative side in her latest project.
Ms Bahloo, the creator of the Inside Outside installation in the Floating Land 2015 exhibition, has turned her focus to community awareness in her latest project.
The Weave Heal Connected: Sculpting with Landcare Project aims to raise community awareness of the value of native and weed plants in the Noosa and district area, for creative use.
Ms Bahloo is facilitating a series of sculptural basket weaving classes in Pomona in April, in order to create a giant basket.
These donation-based workshops provide the opportunity for community members to learn how to prepare local fibres to create a sculpture for permanent display at Noosa Landcare in Pomona.
This project is an extension of a previous project in partnership with Noosa and District Landcare which unfolded last year. This then expanded into the Weave Heal Connected Collective – Sunshine Coast basketry group, currently meeting at Pomona every Wednesday, led by Rene Bahloo. Now the group would like members of the public to come and join them in creating this large-scale public sculpture, in Pomona.
All workshops are held at Noosa Landcare’s Future’s Centre near Pomona showgrounds. For more information, phone Ms Bahloo on 0438 162 552 or email weaverywork@gmail.com.
