De-stress with the jigsaw puzzle collection

Review by Jenny Carter, of Friends of Noosa Library

THE latest buzz word for de-stressing is adult colouring-in books.
But wait! What about jigsaw puzzles! Not only can several pieces of a jigsaw puzzle laid out on the table in front of your eyes, catch your complete attention when you would otherwise be standing around stressing, as you wait for some expected event which is running late, but a jigsaw puzzle can while away some very relaxing, happy and entertaining hours.
A complete alternative to reading, a jigsaw provides the challenge of bringing disparate pieces together, of following patterns, and finding solutions to a conundrum.
Jigsaws can transport you to some of the most beautiful gardens around the world, to mystical places, art masterpieces, to a world of wild life, tickle your sense of humour, and excite your imagination.
Then there is the unknown if you bring home a ‘wasgij’ (read this backwards), and you are faced with the stimulating exercise of assembling a picture which is different from that shown on the box lid.
Surprise – all this really is very absorbing and relaxing.
We are lucky. Our Noosa Library is most enterprising in that it has taken into its ‘for loan’ collection an extensive range of jig saw puzzles.
I have spent many happy hours at home assembling jigsaws, during the winter snugged up against the cold, and over the recent hot months when active pursuits have been too much for the system.
