Nutrition in balance

WHEN Samantha Ince lost 35 kilograms and went from a size 18 to a size 12 in five months, she not only felt a “tremendous confidence explosion”, but she also dramatically improved her health.
As with many people who are overweight, Sam suffered low energy, constant cravings for junk foods, irritable bowel symptoms and gallstones.
After embarking on the Ultra Lite weight management program, her symptoms improved dramatically and she had much more energy to get through her day as a working mum.
“Not only did I lose weight and become healthier, but I also learned to eat the correct foods to control my metabolism,” Sam said.
Noosaville naturopath Yolanda Falivene said she meets many people who are frustrated with weight issues similar to Samantha’s and said they all have one thing in common; hormonal imbalances.
Yolanda said hormonal imbalances can contribute to the building up of fat stores in the body and are influenced by the type of foods we eat.
“Conditions such as an underactive thyroid, menopause, Syndrome X or insulin resistance can really stall fat burning and actually drive hot flushes and weight gain,” she said.
“If exercise and a low calorie diet is not working for you, then maybe your hormones are out of balance.”
Yolanda said there’s more to losing weight and feeling great than just willpower.
“Insulin resistance drives cravings to boost low energy levels. It can stop estrogen breaking down causing fluid retention, mood swings, anxiety and poor sleep,” she said.
“Even eating the wrong combinations and portions of healthy foods can hinder your thyroid, the main gland responsible for your metabolism and weight.”
Yolanda has found that many people are frustrated by their efforts to lose weight because they are eating foods which slow down their metabolism.
“When the correct food is consumed in correct portions hormonal balance is restored, your metabolism improves, cravings disappear, energy lifts and fat is burned,” she said.
“Food is a very powerful drug and the key to successful weight loss is to eat in a way that corrects the metabolic processes.”
Hormonal problems and weight issues need not cause you any more discomfort or distress.
At Noosaville Natural Health, Yolanda uses modern equipment including the 3‐D body scan to determine underlying causes to break the cycle.
With weekly visits and monitoring, Yolanda will give you the support and motivation needed to stay on track and succeed in those goals to lose weight and keep it off.
