HE’S been described as a local legend who is always willing to help a mate and now Noosa locals are coming together to lend a hand, well a pinky, to Mark Murphy.
Diagnosed with cancer more than four years ago, Mark has been the regular face in his store, Mark Murphy’s Bottle Shop in the Tewantin Noosa RSL, where he is always on hand to share a laugh, talk shop or point you in the direction of the week’s specials.
Just a day after arriving home from his honeymoon four and a half years ago, Mark was diagnosed with cancer and has spent the last four weeks in hospital.
To encourage Mark and let him know the community is cheering for him, locals have started to paint their little fingernail pink.
One of the first to have their nail painted was Mark, followed by a host of co-workers including Lindy McAskill, who many might recognise as the friendly face on reception at the Tewantin Noosa RSL.
Mark’s wife Trish has also painted her pinky pink and now wears the colour with pride as she supports her husband’s battle with cancer.
Anyone who would like to show their support for Mark can paint their little fingernail pink and post the image to Noosa Today’s Facebook page.
