It’s time to plan

NOOSA Council has announced work has started on the first stage of developing a new Noosa Plan, which will shape Noosa’s look and feel for the next decade and beyond.
Council will soon be calling on the community to have their say. Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington said the current Noosa Plan, developed in 2006, was 10 years old and due for review.
“The Noosa Plan is a critical document that controls land use and development throughout the shire. Over the next three years council will work with the community to develop the new Noosa Plan. This will be the blueprint to shape Noosa for the next decade,” he said.
“At this early stage in the planning process, we really want to hear residents’ ‘big picture’ ideas and how they feel about Noosa. What is it you cherish most about Noosa, or what would you like to see change?”
Council staff will present a discussion paper to council for endorsement on 20 October. The discussion paper will provide the community with the broad subject areas that the Noosa Plan will address.
Once endorsed, the discussion paper will go live on council’s website at YourSay Noosa. It will be available for public comment from Friday 21 October at www.yoursay.noosa.qld.gov.au.
The discussion paper calls for input on topics such as community, the economy, housing, transport, environment and natural hazards. There is also a focus on our distinct towns and local communities.
The initial consultation phase will begin 21 October and run until 12 December 2016, with council urging the community to have a say on what Noosa should look like into the future.
There are many ways people can engage during this consultation phase. These include visiting Noosa Council Chambers, 9 Pelican Street, Tewantin from Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, online via the Your Say portal, at the Noosaville and Cooroy Library during library opening times, and by sending feedback and suggestions to PO Box 141, Tewantin, Qld 4565.
Council will also host consultation stands throughout the shire in places such as the Kin Kin General Store, Noosa North Shore Retreat, Peregian Beach town square and more. Check the Your Say site from Friday 21 October for the final locations and times.
Council will consider the community’s input to the Discussion Paper and commence drafting the new Noosa Plan in 2017.
Council said they anticipated a draft version of the new planning scheme to be available for community review and feedback in 2018.
