COMMUNITY members, Noosa Council and local groups all came together on Sunday to say no to domestic violence in our community as part of the state-wide day of action.
The council staged a Safer Families, Better Communities day at Lions Park, Noosaville, on Sunday to bring together the community as well as showcase local services and organisations available in Noosa.
Noosa mayor Noel Playford said in the last year alone there were more than 2000 reported cases of domestic violence across the Sunshine Coast, Gympie and Noosa region, with many more going unreported.
Cr Playford said even one case was too many and “cowardly” acts of domestic violence had no place in our homes.
On the day, the Zonta Club of Noosa, St Vincent de Paul’s, the Salvation Army, the Sunshine Coast Rainbow Network and many more community organisations were on hand to speak with the community and share information on their services.
Throughout the event community members were urged to add their hand print to a statement board that will tour Noosaville and Cooroy library branches as an enduring reminder that Noosa says no to domestic violence.
