Shaping his own career

A love of surfing and building boards has led Thomas Bexon and Jake Bowrey to create some of the best boards on offer in Noosa.
Thomas Surfboards has been operating out of Noosaville for more than six years and in that time the expanding business has handcrafted customised boards for surfers throughout the world.
Founder and surfboard shaper Thomas said he loves what he does.
“I studied social work at university and got a degree then I realised it’s not what I wanted to do,” he said. “So I turned my hobby of shaping boards into a career.”
Thomas and Jake now visit France once or twice a year and will be in Bali this week shaping boards for the Deus ex Machine shop in Canggu.
As well as high-end custom boards for the Thomas Surfboards labels, Thomas and Jake also make boards for Hayden Queensland and performance short boards for French brand UWL.
What started as a small business in an industrial shed has expanded to include the three brands which are manufactured in the surrounding sheds, plus the retail and barber shop, Captain Sip Sops.
Captain Sip Sops Barber Shop and Outfitters has been operating since 2012 when like-minded Malaki Mitchell teamed up to create the retail space and barbers shop that offers a full-service barber shop and retail which, of course, includes Thomas Surfboards.
Thomas Surfboards and Captain Sip Sops is located at 175 Noosa Eumundi Road, Noosaville.
