Cooroy Bowls
SMALL clubs all over Australia are struggling to get players on the green and Cooroy is no exception. We have combined with Yandina Bowls Club and alternate our Saturday games to provide a win/win situation. Last Saturday saw the Yandina visitors go home with the prizes so let’s hope the Cooroy folk do just as well at Yandina next Saturday.
There was no report from the Business bowlers this week as the organiser is on holidays but the field was full and lots of fun and laughter was had by all.
Two top teams, JeLS and 101’s played against each other on Thursday night in the High Rollers challenge. 101’s had the JeLS pinned for most of the game but the latter team came good on the last end winning by just two points. The storm stopped play slightly earlier than usual so the result could have been much different with one more end to go. Eumundi Boys, BAM, Rob and Co, Kybong Kids and Galahs also had wins. Bushrangers got full points as their opponents had to forfeit. Only three more games will be played so it will be a close finish.

Noosa Heads Bowls
LAST week’s bowls started with the November edition of the Noosa 1500 being played on Monday. Simon Wood and Danny Crameri took out first prize, scoring two wins and the highest margin in the second game. Winners of the first round losers section were Ian Sanday and Neil Walsh. Not many bowlers turned out on Melbourne Cup day, with Ray McComb and Les James having the best result in the men’s pairs from runners-up Geoff Davis and Walter Zemler. Wednesday ladies winners were Joan Laney, Valerie Bush and Beryl Nelson. Taking second prize were Carol Coole, Phyl Bolton and Et Kellett.
David Deane and Laurie Axiak won Friday’s open jackpot pairs, their margin just ahead of Richard Wales and Sharyn Briggs. Winners of the first round losers pool were Mal Lloyd and Ron Wallish. Following a failure of one of Coolum’s light towers, last Wednesday’s night pennant clash was moved to Noosa Heads. Despite the home-green advantage we could only win the ladies’ and men’s pairs games, leaving Coolum to score 6-2 points. This week Noosa has a bye.

Tewantin Noosa Bowls
A GREAT day of bowls on Saturday, Noosa Heads joined us for combined clubs ‘friendship’ day. With 86 bowlers soaking up the sun, eating cake and enjoying a sausage sizzle and more importantly the friendship was evident. Thank you to everyone who participated and especially the organisers from both clubs for making it so successful.
Tuesday ladies bowls was suspended due to the Melbourne Cup. I understand a great time was had by all and a special mention for our 2 4 6 Ate Bistro for putting on a good spread.
Wednesday men’s pairs winners were Graham Foster and Lindsay Barker (2 wins+25). Runners-up were Trevor Crosby and Greg Halloway (1 win +20). Triples winners were Rodney Gunderson, Peter Bennett and John Mohr – the jackpot of $60 was not won and carries over.
Friday open triples winners were Rodney Gunderson, Peter Bennett and Peter Richardson. Runners-up were Ray Larke, Jack White and Peter Larke. The $30 jackpot was not won and carries over.
Championship bowls: Van Vignon and Carol McCaskill will meet in the consistency final on Thursday 13 November, at 1pm. Teams Ramsden and Evans will meet in the men’s championship fours on Sunday 30 November, at 1pm – spectators are encouraged.
Presentation night is Saturday 29 November, bookings at the club.
