New school hopes to play up

IT’S curtains up for the Sunshine Coast’s newest musical theatre school, the Coast Academy of Song and Dance.
After nine years of travelling the world to sing, dance and act, Anna Quayle is back in Noosa and ready to share her passion with her students.
The Coast Academy of Song and Dance will be open to everyone of all ages and abilities, offering school-age focussed classes, as well as private singing tuition.
“I am not limiting classes to young people,” she said. “If there are adults wanting to get involved, I am happy to organise extra classes if there is enough interest – who knows, we could put on a big community show with everyone.”
Anna said musical theatre is a great art to learn, as everyone has the chance to shine and is given the opportunity to become a well-rounded performer.
“I am focussing on musical theatre classes, as this is the type pf performance I find most fun for students and also brings me most enjoyment as a teacher,” she said.
“It’s all singing, dancing, and acting and the music is so emotive, you can’t help but get a buzz from it.
Anna said there has been a rise in popularity and demand of musical theatre due to an increase in musicals and musical movies, and looks forward to sharing her skills and knowledge with students.
“I want my students to be as good as they can be,” she said. “But, I also want them to have the most fun they’ll have all week, at my classes. This has a knock-on effect as they then also become more confident and much better performers generally.
“The more fun performers have on stage … the more fun the audience will have.”
Holiday, week-long, workshops are available throughout the Christmas holidays and will be held at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
In the new school year, Anna will offer after-school classes for primary and senior school students at the Bicentennial Annex on Mondays, Cooroy Memorial Hall on Tuesdays, Good Shepherd Lutheran College on Wednesdays, and Coolum Civic Centre on Thursdays.
