Surprise marriage proposal

By Margaret Maccoll

For the couple who became famous after appearing on the first series of The Block TV show, the wait for the law to be passed was nerve-racking but now done, they have already checked on the process of marriage registration and are looking for a supportive celebrant.
“It’s been a landmark decision in our lives,” Gavin said.
“It makes our family and friends so happy as well.”
Gavin said the wedding would happen sometime in the New Year and would entail a quiet ceremony on their beautiful Cooran property, unlike the extraordinary marriage proposal Warren staged last year in New York on Gavin’s 50th.
“Warren surprised me and said why not go to New York. And he surprised me by flying my Mum and Dad to New York,” Gavin said.
The couple went to a beautiful restaurant in Soho after arrivingn then Warren suggested they take a look at a nearby store.
A jet-lagged Gavin just wanted to sleep but he obliged and was shocked to discover his mum and dad sitting on a sofa within the store.
They all travelled to Times Square where splashed across seven-storey billboards was a 10-minute tribute to Gavin’s life with the last image a marriage proposal.
Gavin said when he first came out and met Warren, his parents hadn’t been that accepting – but that has changed and in New York his father told Warren no one had ever shown him such kindness.
“I said to Dad, it’s all about no regrets,” Gavin said.
