Sea of high-energy dancers

By JOLENE OGLE

A FLASH mob took locals and visitors by surprise when they danced up a storm on Noosa Main Beach on Saturday morning.
Leading the dance crew was local zumba instructor Sheryl Bingham who was joined by more than 45 zumba students in a high-energy dance to the popular tune, Up Town Funk.
Sheryl, who teaches zumba in Tewantin, and the dancers practised for weeks in the lead-up to the big event and danced in the name of charity raising over $1300 for the Noosa Heads Seahorse Nippers Program.
The Noosa Heads Surf Club Seahorse Nippers Program is run by volunteers and is designed specifically for children with special needs.
Sheryl, whose oldest son is part of the program, said she loved raising funds for the Seahorse Nippers and hoped to encourage other surf clubs to take up the program.
“My son absolutely loves it,” she said.
“It’s a wonderful program because children can enjoy the surf and the activities on the beach.
“I really want to let other clubs know about the program so they can take it on and help kids enjoy the surf.”
Sheryl said she and the dancers were nervous before the performance, but said it was all worth it seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces.
“We loved doing the flash mob,” she said.
“We were so nervous before we started but then we were on a high all day.”
