WHAT a week on the water!
Things have definitely improved after the weather event we had earlier in the month, it’s amazing how the changes in the weather affect the way the fish feed.
In the river, trevally of all varieties have been on the chew right through the lower estuary.
Woods Bays have been the prime spot with early morning and late afternoon really firing. Surface lures have been the way to go with both boater and land-based anglers cleaning up.
If you are fishing a popper give the Crystal Pops from Bassday in the 55mm a go, these are a sinking popper and will pop as well as streak under the surface on a fast retrieve and have that little extra cast weight.
After the sun goes down there is still plenty of action to be had with soft plastic also working extremely well. Bream and whiting have also been in great numbers with the Dog Beach and Frying Pan fishing well for whiting while Gympie Terrace has been fishing well for bream.
Worms, prawns and white bait have been good on the bream, while worms and yabbies have been perfect on the whiting. Up river there have been plenty of smaller jew with the stretch from Tewantin up to the first lake prime territory. Live baits and larger paddle vibe style lures have been responsible for some quality fish. Flathead are also in good numbers with the upper reaches of the river and Weyba Creek both hot spots.
Offshore, things have also been going off, for anglers in bigger craft, a trip to the outer reef was on the cards last Saturday and they were not disappointed.
On the Barwon Banks, anglers were bagging out on quality snapper between 4kg and 7kg, big pearl perch were also on offer, some great red emperor were also hitting the decks with the anglers that made their way to the reefs off Double Island.
A little closer to Noosa, most of the closer reefs also held some quality fish, Sunshine Reef was again performing with some smaller yet very tasty snapper, plenty of sweetlip and the odd jew.
There has been little or no run over the last week so anglers have also done well with micro jigs and soft plastic bait presentation.
On the beach, Noosa Northshore has some nice gutters at the moment and there are plenty of fish to target, in the closer gutter whiting are in good numbers with worms and pippies doing the job. Bigger bream and dart are also feeding in the same area and are happy to take any sort of flesh baits.
The odd larger tailor has come from the top end of North Shore towards Double Island with the night fish the best time. For those spending the night Jew are also on the menu.
So on behalf of Jack Mangrove, best of luck on your fishing adventures!
